Free Education in Germany

Around 3 lakh international students study in Germany at one timeĀ  out of which in addition toĀ  around 15,000 are Indian students alone .Germany is Europeā€™s most industrialized and populous country . An area of 3, 57,022 square kilometers makes it the seventh largest country in Europe. Germany has a population of around 82 million people and its largest city is Berlin which is also its capital.Ā The thing you need to know is that, there is free education in Germany.

Famed for its technological and scientific achievements, it has also produced some of Europeā€™s most celebrated composers, philosophers and poets.

One interesting news is that education in German is free! Germans, Europeans, and all non-Europeans can study in Germany free of charge – without tuition fees. It does not matter from where you belong. This applies to almost all study programs at public universities in Germany.

However, there is one thing to note and that is that if you are from outside the Europe, you will need a residence permit before you arrive in the country; and you will have to finish your studies in Germany.

    Of course not! There are accommodation and living costs but German public colleges do not charge a tuition fees. This semester contribution entitles you to a semester ticket which helps you travel for free around the city. And all German universities are autonomous. So, you can check on different universities as the cost of study may vary for each. The tuition costs also vary according to the course you are applying for.

Things to Know:

 

  • There are almost 300 public universities in Germany, and there are more than 1,000 study programs in total. This means, you have a lot of options and opportunities.
  • Germany do believes it socially unjust to pay a price for education. However, one another reason for Germanā€™s policy of free education is that it has realized the economic and social benefits of immigration. Germany wants to get the cleverest minds to study into the country, and ideally to stay after graduation; and that is why they generally oppose tuition fees for foreigners, as well.
  • You can stay in Germany after your graduation. You will have to apply for the same and yes, you will be allowed to stay in Germany.
  • There are few exceptions, where you may not be provided a free education in Germany. And that are the private universities. As private universities are independent of government charge so they are free to ask you for a price for education.
  • One more thing, you should keep in mind is that first of all, you have to be eligible for entry into German Universities. You have to pass the required prerequisites and your merit should qualify. Your marks in the various entrance exams like GRE, GMAT, IELTS or TOEFL can be beneficial for you during admissions to tuition free universities.
