- The most renowned and the oldest ones.
- Located mainly in the Northeastern part of the USA.
- Having many graduate & professional schools, these are well known for their Business Schools.
- Comparatively ,Their tuition fees is among the highest in the country.
- Additionally , the have quite competitive admission.

Community Colleges
- Two‐year community colleges usually offer the associate’s degree such as an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS).
- They provide Certificates, Diplomas & Associate Degrees.
- These institutions offer academic, technical and vocational degrees.
- Community colleges often have open admissions policies.
- They have low tuition fees.
- 2 + 2 programs – Some community colleges have automatic enrollment agreements with a local 4 year college or University where the community college provides the first two years of study and the University provides the remaining two years of study. These programs are often called 2 + 2 programs.

Types of Degrees offered to Study in USA
- Associate Degree : Academic degree of 2 years is awarded by Community Colleges. If the community college.has an articulated agreement with a high ranked university, then a student can be transferred to that university after the completion of associate degree for the remaining 2 years bachelors degree Completion.
- Bachelors Degree : Commonly known as the Undergraduate Degree, it is awarded after completing a 4-year course. For Eg : Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science
- Masters Degree : Usually a masters course is of 2 years. E.g. Masters of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MS), Master of Engineering (MEng), Master of Business Administration. But the duration for some courses like MBA, Executive MBA, law may be just 1 year also.
- Doctorate : The degree is known as Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Duration may range from 3-5 years. Ph.D. students need to submit a research proposal as well as have to appear Standardized Test i.e. GRE/GMAT and TOEFL/IELTS for admission.
Students who studied in USA and did their Bachelor’s there may apply directly into doctoral program without first earning master degree in some majors.
Entry criteria for Masters Program to study in USA:
- 16(12+4) years of education required.
- Academic Percentage : 58% and above with minimum backlogs.
- Acceptable scores of Standardized Tests : GRE : 300+, GMAT : 500+, TOEFL : 79, IELTS : 5 overall band.
- Other factors:
- Extra curricular activities that the student has been involved in
- The research that the student has done in his particular subject.
- Documents such as Resume, Letters of recommendation & Statement of Purpose.
Exceptions when considering to Study in USA
- In some universities, 15 (12+3) years education is also accepted if the Institution in India is NAAC “A” Accredited (National Assessment & Accreditation Council).
- 3 years of bachelors degree acceptable for admissions into Masters for Computer Science, MBA & Public Health courses & in other programs through Pathway with few universities.
- Few universities even allow admissions without GRE/GMAT scores.
- Students with less TOEFL/IELTS can get admission through pathway or English as second language program.

Entry Criteria for Stud in USA (Undergraduate Program)
- US generally requires 12 years of education for Associate Degree and Bachelors Degree
- Academic Percentage : 58% and above.
- Acceptable Scores : TOEFL 71 to 80, IELTS 6.0
- SAT 1 : A good score would be 1150+ (according to the new score) .
- Only top 25 Universities may require SAT Subject tests min of 2 subjects.
- For Engineering courses : Math Level I or II, Physics or Chemistry.
- For Business Courses : Math Level I.
- It is advised to students who have done their diploma (3 years) to get their credentials evaluated (can be through WES wes.org),as there is a great possibility of getting some transfer credits, thus saving the cost,time & effort of repeatedly studying the subjects that a student has already done.
- For Bachelors program SAT is not required for transfer cases.
- The student who are in bachelors in India can go to USA as transfer cases. They do not get 100% credit transferred. The transfer case varies from university to university, it is determined by how many Indian courses will match with USA syllabus.
- Admissions without SAT scores are possible. However, SAT is required for Scholarships.
